Day 60

Patrick's training note from yesterday was dead on.  I went into this week ready to rock and feeling really good about how my body felt and where I was going.....and then this week life (work mainly) got into the way and I found myself falling into some of the traps Patrick described. I haven't done cardio the last three days (although I have done the mats...these new exercises have discovered muscles I didn't realize I had and made them ache.) because I have been busy and I have sold myself on the "Well....I really have been all over the cardio, I am really doing well there, a few days missing won't be a big deal."

Similarly I have been good about the diet, but I have had a few moments of weakness.  A dinner party last week where I ate sensibly but off program and had a beer.  A team lunch with Thai food this week where I ate mainly vegetables but still had rich sauces and probably a bit more than my allotment, a beer with an old colleague.  Little things like that where I am "letting myself off the hook" because I wake up and I like what I see.  I feel the belt notches off.  I'm in as good a physical condition as I have been in a long, long while.  I need to reinforce to myself that even though things are starting to look good I am still at a weight and body fat percentage that is just not healthy.  There is a lot of work to do.

I am still having this problem with my trap and shoulder.  I am doing the push exercises but I am going light - for the triceps dip I am using benches that come about halfway up my butt (ahem......phrasing) and I am not doing any "ground" push ups, just the deep incline.  The trap really seems more tied to travel on public transport - which I do constantly - but I have to figure out how to get rid of this, it is hurting my sleep.

Stand as much as possible for the trap. Not a good solution but about all you can do.

This is some major valley time stuff man. Everyone goes through it. Try not to rationalize bad choices and always bring what happened to the blog, good or bad.

It gets better!

Thanks for posting the ups and downs. You are the best at doing that. It reminds us all that we all face similar daily choices - and by comparison, you are an angel to a few choices I've made. It is great to feel a few notches off - something that hasn't happened in years but as you say, we are far from reaching true healthy state, at least in the bigger picture.

Let's hope the trap and shoulder start getting better. You are right to focus exercise where there is little to no stress on that area. Although it is boring (for some), nothing wrong with extra cardio time on stationary bike or non-shoulder-straining equipment.

Slowly but surely, it will heal.

Looking good, mate.

So as I have whined about incessantly, I travel a lot for work which means that I am subject to the volatile gods of restaurant food. Now.....I think I am doing OK with this - I just had a nice vegetable curry and threw out about half of it and I feel nicely full - but the scale tomorrow morning will be the judge of that. But one area of the diet where I am struggling on a regular basis is the egg requirement. I am being asked to have one whole egg with breakfast and one egg w
