Days 51 and 52 - Canada time

So I flew into Canada yesterday morning ready to get back into the program and I feel like I went in with both feet.

I had a very close to perfect day yesterday from a diet perspective.  I didn't get the evening egg whites in because the boiled eggs I purchased smelled off when I opened them up; lesson learned. I ended up having a banana (which I had handy) to compensate from a hunger perspective.  Not a perfect tradeoff, but still.

Walked home from the office - 30 minutes - and then had a great run in the gym for 25 minutes - matched my recent PB of 2.62 miles.

This morning I read through the "ATM" training post and realized that "paying it back" on the mat exercises is probably not the way I should go.  I am on a shoulder rehab exercise regime that I will do instead with the time.  My shoulder is still a bit sore and hasn't shown any improvement yet for any exercise that involves pushing (e.g. push ups), but it feels good on all other exercises other than tricep dips.  I am swapping the pushing exercises for pulls; today I did 100 rows instead of the 40 push ups.  I recognize that this isn't perfect but I am definitely feeling like I am losing muscle in my upper body and I want to gain it back.

So I woke up, read through the directions for the day and fired out the mat work before I even got into the shower.  It is a beautiful day here so again I plan on walking back to the hotel and then doing a treadmill run.  I am pretty close to on plan for the day from a diet perspective; lunch options were limited as I was late and the cafeteria here stinks, but I got plenty of veg in a thai curry on brown rice; no protein though.  The curry may have been a little sweeter and creamier than I would have hoped for, but the portions were real close.

I am having a really painful week here at work but the program is certainly not hurting.  If anything it is giving me some nice respite.

Nice post - very descriptive and reflective at the same time.
Good to see you are pushing harder on the runs - it must feel great to get back the old PB times and feel the extra energy at the end of runs - racing to the end, not surviving.
Food options will always be toughest when travelling. Maybe you can get the airport taxi to take you via a supermarket & wait while you quickly shop. With a few empty tupperware boxes in hand, you can fit out several days with some brief shopping. If memory serves, there is a fantastic farmer's market in downtown Toronto with loads of organic veggies, homemade cheeses and fresh meats. This is where Toronto's great ethnic diversity shines best.
About work - it is bearing down lately a lot harder than expected. Now the daily routines of the programme give some pause for sanity, however brief.
great post again.

Hey, someone actually listened to me! Good stuff man, the ATM thinking can get really out of hand once you engage in it.

Good work on the near perfect day, just two egg whites away!

Glad to hear you're seeing the training as a respite, not a buden, I feel that same way when I'm in full training mode. The rest of my life can be falling to pieces but there's that one thing that's constant.

So as I have whined about incessantly, I travel a lot for work which means that I am subject to the volatile gods of restaurant food. Now.....I think I am doing OK with this - I just had a nice vegetable curry and threw out about half of it and I feel nicely full - but the scale tomorrow morning will be the judge of that. But one area of the diet where I am struggling on a regular basis is the egg requirement. I am being asked to have one whole egg with breakfast and one egg w
